Section One - NAME OF LODGE - BY-LAWS
The name of this lodge shall be Black Hawk Lodge #65 Ancient and Free Accepted Masons
Chartered on June the Sixth (6) Day 1855 by the Grand Lodge of Iowa. AF&AM
All by-laws heretofore adopted by this lodge are hereby repealed.
Section Two - COMMUNICATIONS - TIME - PLACE
All stated communications of this lodge shall be held in the Masonic Center, 212 1/2 Main Street, Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50613, which shall be held on the Second Monday of each Month. In the event that the regular meeting can not be held it shall be moved to the First Thursday following the Second Monday. The meeting time shall be 7:30 PM o'clock. Called meetings may be held at any time at the direction of the Worshipful Master, by giving due notice to reasonable number of members, by publication or otherwise; specifying the purpose for which called. Festival meetings for special intercourse and pleasure, may be called by a vote of the Lodge at all suitable times and places observing therein the teaching and welfare of the institution.
Section Three - ORDER OF BUSINESS
The Order of business at stated communication (Subject to the Will and Pleasure of the Master) shall be.
- Reading and approving the minutes of the last stated and all intervening communications.
- Unfinished business.
- Reading communications and actions thereon.
- Examination of proficiency.
- Reporting of committees on petitions.
- Balloting.
- Reception of petitions.
- Reports of standing and special committees.
- New Business.
- Payment of dues.
- Reading of bills.
- Reading of minutes for correction.
- Inquiry by Master: Has all money received by the Secretary been deposited and a copy of the deposit slip sent to the Treasurer?
- Work.
- Closing.
All business of this lodge must originate at stated communications: except burial of the dead and installations.
Section Four - CHARITY COMMITTEE
The Charity Committee shall consist of the Master and the Senior and Junior Wardens who shall also be the Trustee of the Charity Fund. The Master shall be Chairman. The duties of such Committee shall be such as are prescribed in The Masonic Code. Chapter 14, Section 2.
Section Five - FINANCE COMMITTEE
The committee on Finance shall consist of three members of the Lodge, to be appointed by the Master on the day of his installation. Their duties shall be such as are prescribed in the Masonic Code. Chapter 14, Section 3. It is also the duty of this committee to establish separate bank accounts to receive monies given for special purposes such as Memorials, Building Repair, Equipment Replacement and any other account deemed necessary.
Section Six - EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Education Committee shall consist of three members of the Lodge to be appointed by the Master of the day of his installation for a period of three years. The duties of such committee shall be such as are prescribed in the Masonic Code. Chapter 14, Section 4.
Section Seven - BOARD OF TRUSTEES
A Board of Trustees of the Lodge Consisting of three (3) members, of whom shall be elected at the annual election, who shall assume the duties of his office on the first day of the month following his election, and hold this office for three years thereafter. The Board shall meet on or before the first day of January for the purpose of organizing and the election of a chairman. The duties of such trustees shall be as prescribed in the Masonic Code. Chapter 13, Section One (1) and Two (2). Also it shall be the duties of the trustees to be responsible for the property upkeep, maintenance and cleanliness of all lodge property and they shall be authorized to employ any help as necessary to perform these duties at wages recommended by the board of trustees and approved by the lodge. The Trustees are also authorized to negotiate the lease of business property, collect all rents there from and approved all bills incurred at the direction of the lodge. Any and all expenses in excess of $4000.00 must be approved by the membership.
Section Eight - SECRETARY - TYLER
The Secretary shall receive an annual compensation of $2400.00 ($200.00 per Month) and the Tyler shall receive a fee of $5.00 for each month he performs his duties.
Section Nine - FEES FOR DEGREES
The fee for the three degrees shall be $75.00 to be paid as follows: $50.00 to accompany the petition, and the remaining $25.00 to be paid before conferring the fellowcraft degree.
Section Ten - DUES
The annual dues shall be $29.00 plus Grand Lodge Dues to be paid as provided by the Masonic Code. Chapter 40, Section One (1) thru Nine (9). Any brother who is on active duty in the Armed Forces of this Country shall have his dues remitted for his tour of duty.
Section Eleven - CHARITY FUND
The Charity Fund shall consist of monies received from the following sources:
- $2.00 from each member's annual dues.
- Contributions of members designating the fund for charity.
- Any other funds designated by the Lodge, Members or persons.
The fund shall be administered by the Charity Committee in accordance with the provision set forth in the Masonic Code. Chapter 14, Section Two (2).
Section Twelve - AMENDMENTS
The Lodge may at anytime adopt new By-Laws, or make any desired amendments thereto not inconsistent with the Laws of the Grand Lodge, or the usages and customs of the Order; provided, that no such amendments or By-Laws shall be adopted by the Lodge except at a stated meeting thereof, after being read at the last previous stated meeting, and the announcement made that the same will be for action by the Lodge at the next stated meeting. A majority vote shall be sufficient to adopt. No By-Laws nor any portion thereof can be temporarily dispensed with or suspended, except the clause relative to the order of business.
Section Thirteen - PRESENT BY-LAWS
Every member of this lodge shall be presented with a copy of these By-Laws on request.
Section Fourteen - BY-LAWS IN EFFECT
These By-Laws shall be in effect from and after their adoption.
